2019 Solastalgia
ÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂÂ
"Solastagia" describes that whichÂis difficult to express through words alone.ÂWith its origins in nostalgia, solace, destruction and suffering, it can be variously defined as a melancholia associated with the radical alteration of a landscape that was once familiar, a form of homesickness while still at home, or an anticipatory grief over the loss of a beloved natural environment.

The initial impetus for this on-going series of drawings was borne out of a profound personal grief, when my work became a necessary outlet to explore the physical embodiment of the intense emotions I was feeling. However, when this started to feel too insular, I began to move beyond the purely personal and explore grief within a broader context, expressing a much more universal sense of bereavement over the rapidly accelerating degradation of our planet.
